 Saya belajar kristik dari istri saya. Pertama-tama saya ingat betul disuruhnya membuat kristikan donald bebek ukuran 20x20 cm. Waktu itu saya kerjakan iseng-iseng, asal jadi karena sebenarnya belum tertarik. Saya merasa kristik adalah kerajinan tangan yang terlalu lamban dan menyita waktu. Karenanya kemudian saya belajar melukis. Bermodal prinsip "barang kelihatan pasti bisa dipelajari", saya bisa melukis: minimal bisa melukis foto sendiri dan keluarga dengan cat minyak di atas kanvas.
Pada suatu ketika, untuk menemani istri, saya kembali ikut meng-kristik. Kali ini kristik betulan: sebuah kristikan pemandangan air terjun ukuran 90x180cm. Besar. Disusul kemudian kristik gambar rumah. Besar juga. Nah di sinilah kemudian saya berpikiran membuat desain kristik sendiri. Waktu itu saya belum terkoneksi dengan internet. Yang terpikir: di kompiuter saya punya program pengolah gambar. Saya coba manfaatkan program itu dan hasilnya desain kristik untuk foto istri saya (lihat gambar). Untuk saya menyelesaikan kristik ini adalah perjuangan besar. Saat mulai saya betul-betul sulit memilih warna benang yang cocok. Selama proses pembuatan saya bingung membedakan letak masing-masing benangnya. Maklum saya hanya berhasil membuat desain ala kadarnya, bukan desain jadi seperti yang diberikan paket kristik pabrikan. Diselingi beberapa kali berhenti karena putus asa dan malas akhirnya selesai juga kristik wajah istri saya. Cukup besar karena berukuran 80x100cm. Puas? Tentu saja. Ini hadiah untuk istri yang unik. Saya kira belum banyak yang membuat kristikan seperti ini. Berikutnya: KRISTIK sebagai media seni.
